A question frequently asked… “What should (I/we) wear?”
Dress according to the weather – If you live in Wisconsin, you’re well aware that the weather can change at the flip of a dime. If you have a weather app, keep it handy the week prior to your session. Just recently, I had to change my own family’s outfits for a photoshoot because the temperature dropped from the upper 60s to mid-50s. I was definitely scrambling!
Colors – Earthy muted tones are THE best. Bright colors will throw off the calm look you’re aiming for. Google earth tones, and you’ll see a plethora of colors to choose from. Pick colors that will have you stand out from your location. For instance, you may want a creamy white sweater if you’re in an indoor setting versus black. You may want to avoid green if you know you’ll be in a grassy area or in the woods with lots of leaves. I want to showcase you and what you’re wearing, not have you blend into your background.
Avoid being super matchy!!! Your colors and styles should blend, but you don’t need everyone wearing the same exact colors or matching outfits. I think back to growing up in the 80s when my mom used to have my brothers and me all wearing the same exact colors. My mom and I had matching sailor-style dresses. Eeek!
Some other things to think about –
As a little side note, I don’t use props for my photos. The only “prop” I suggest is a warm blanket for those colder evenings. If you have more questions, feel free to reach out!
